What’s in my make up bag? – Ted Baker

Hello my lovelies, I wanted to share with you what is in my make up bag. These are my essential products that I use on a day to day basis, these products are the same products that I use every day and never change.

I use these 2 products at separate times throughout my foundation routine. I use the B6 Vitamin-infused complexion prep spray as my 1st step, this helps to reduce redness, minimise pores and absorbs excess oil on the skin – basically prepping the skin ready for your routine. The de-slick make up setting spray is a setting spray specifically to help with oil control, I actually spray this product onto my foundation brush before applying my foundation, that way the setting spray is mixed in lightly with the foundation and in my opinion works better as a setting spray.

This Urban Decay Naked Skin beauty balm is what I use as my primer. It helps to blur out imperfections, it’s oil free and primes the skin ready for foundation. Before I use this, I do use my EOS lip balm, which I haven’t taken a photo of as I already have written a blog on it.

Next items I use are my Urban Decay naked skin foundation and I use it with the Urban Decay Optical Blurring brush. This brush is specifically best used with this foundation, both of which I am in absolute love with. I have already done a review on both of these so I won’t go in to detail, but one thing I will say is that a setting powder is not required with this foundation which is why you won’t see a setting powder in this post.

Above is the 2 next things that I use, I use the Bare Minerals bronzer in the shade ‘The Skinny Dip’ (left) to contour my face, this is the perfect shade bronzer for my skin and blends in perfectly! I then use the Mosaic Bronze Glow in the shade ‘Sunkissed’ on the top of the cheek bones to give my skin that extra little bit of glow/shimmer. The brush I use with these is the Blush/Contour brush by B.

This is the mascara I am currently using, this is not normally the mascara I would purchase, however I never stick to one mascara. This is the first one of this brand I’ve tried and I was pleasantly surprised with it being such a cheap mascara. It isn’t clumpy and it also dries quick which in my eyes is a good thing. The eyelash curler above is by Tweezerman, this is really good at curling the lashes which I use every day before using the mascara as you’d probably guess.

Lastly, this is the Loreal Le blush in the shade ‘True Rose’. I have used this blush for almost a year and still haven’t hit base. It’s the perfect blush for me as like the bronzer suits my complexion and blends in perfectly. The brush I use with this is the Real Techniques contour brush.

All of these products like I said I use every single day, the only product that differs is my choice of lip gloss/lipstick. Therefore I have left out the lipsticks all together. I quite often go for a neutral look so eye shadows are very rarely a part of my collection.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post, what’s in your make up bag? Do any of you use the same products as me? Let me know 🙂 x

Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation – REVIEW

So the full name of this product is actually ‘Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Make up’.. quite a mouthful if you ask me!

IMG_1046

It feels like wearing nothing at all, yet Naked Skin transforms complexions. Skin looks natural, illuminated and bright: like the beautiful skin you were born with. Weightless and virtually invisible, this revolutionary, paragon-free formula creates a flawless, demo-matte finish; light-diffusing spheres make you look professionally retouched. It’s the ultimate in ultra definition.

Infused with Matrixyl 3000 (a powerful anti-wrinkle peptide), protective and brightening Litchiderm, antioxidant green tea, and vitamins, this makeup loads skin with nourishing ingredients.

Here I have two shades, 1.0 and 3.0. Shades ending in .0 are the warm/yellow shades  and any shade ending in .5 are the cool/pink tones depending on which your skin suits best. I have a yellow undertone skin and I am a mixture of the above shades.

I was actually disappointed at the Urban Decay counter as the lady matched me up to a 3.0, it was not until I saw myself in natural light that I realised it was way too dark for me! Eventually I had to purchase my actual matched shade 1.0 – (which is a equivalent to NC15 in Mac Pro-longwear foundation).

Now I have always been rather skeptical with this foundation as I always want a full coverage foundation that lasts all day to help cover my acne and with this foundation saying words like ‘weightless’ it made me think it must be rather thin and therefore provide light coverage.

Well surprisingly I was wrong! As the foundation states, the foundation is in fact weightless and provides medium coverage with even 1 layer. For full coverage foundation I put on 2 layers and I’m ready to go.

Pro’s

  • Doesn’t need a powder to set, it sets demi-matte and non sticky so there is no icky feel to it. After a minute max or drying it’s smooth and soft to the touch!
  • Easy to apply, doesn’t dry too quickly making it easy to work with.
  • A little foundation goes a long way, 2 pumps of foundation can produce one layer.. which brings me onto my next point…
  • The foundation has a pump for clean and easy use and reduces wasting foundation
  • The packaging of the bottle – some people don’t like it but I do, the look of the bottle is what brought me in to trying the foundation. This is saying something I suppose considering I’d never purchased anything from Urban Decay in the past.
  • I would also consider the smell of this foundation as a pro. I’ve noticed a mixture of comments on the smell of this foundation, a few people stating it smelt like paint. I strongly disagree, to me this foundation smells of suncream but only for about 3 seconds. As soon as it starts blending in you can’t smell anything anymore. So for those people who would think it smelt more of paint – the smell doesn’t last long at all.

Con’s

  • The price – this foundation is considered more of a luxury foundation with a RRP of £27. But then for me, I think this price is worth it as it lasts a while and I’m purchasing a good quality foundation.
  • There are 18 shades to this foundation, going from 0.5 to 12.0. This is all well and good but they don’t have an exact match for me like some foundations do. 0.5 is porcelain and almost white but for pink undertone skin. The next shade up is 1.0 which is yellow undertoned like mentioned before but it still has a slight pink undertone to it. Luckily when I’ve finished my entire make up, you can’t noticeably tell that it’s slightly different to the rest of my body.

So overall, there are more pro’s than con’s and the price isn’t a massive con for me (especially for this foundation). I think I may have possibly found my holy grail foundation. This has never been done before! This will definitely be a re-pruchase product! I’m sure of it. I’m yet to see how long the bottle of foundation will last me but I know doubt it will last me a long long time at only 2-4 pumps for me daily.

MAC – Fix+ and Pro Longwear Foundation – REVIEW

IMG_0905

Like with my previous post I am going to be doing a  2 in 1 review on MAC’s Fix+ and Pro Longwear foundation. Again, the reason for the 2 in 1 review is the fact that I have only ever used these products together, therefore I feel as though the best way I can review truthfully is to review them in this one post.

So we’ll start with the base of the 2 products – MAC Prep & Prime Fix+

A soothing moisture mist that refreshes the skin and finishes make up.

I have to say the first thing I noticed/read on the packaging with this product that I LOVE is that you have the option of being able to use it before OR after you’ve applied your make up. For me, I use this before applying my make up. The reason for this is I feel as though it is a little bit too wet for me to apply after make up and with me having oily skin as it is I didn’t want an over-duey look!

I feel as though that using this before applying my foundation is priming my skin and does actually give me the perfect glow that I want from my finished make up look. I wouldn’t use this as my one and only primer though, to me this mainly improves the finished look of my foundation so I would not recommend this product if you were to use it primarily as a primer. Hence the name ‘Fix +’

2nd part to this review being the Pro-longwear foundation:

A creamy foundation that gives up to 15 hours of wear in any environmental condition.

I am surprisingly impressed with this foundation as I had heard such a mixture of reviews about it myself. I was previously wearing the Estee Lauder Doublewear foundation which was extremely good when it came to lasting all day with good coverage but as my skin was getting better, the foundation was too cakey so I wanted something more lightweight but still providing good coverage that lasted. So this was when I decided to break my MAC virginity and take the plunge in ordering this foundation.

Can I just mention, I bought this foundation on the MAC website, now this is considerably brave when you think about the price it cost and never owning a MAC product in my life and so therefore didn’t even have the slightest clue at what shade I would be!

LUCKILY, there are websites out there that help with this! If you want to know the 2 websites I used to help pick my shade then let me know because these websites came to the conclusion I would be shade NC15 in this foundation after asking just a few questions about my skin and to my surprise THEY WERE WERE RIGHT! This is the perfect shade for my skin and my risk paid out which will probably never happen this well again. Not to mention there is a variety of shades to choose from.

The foundation itself is lightweight and creamy when applying. Now a few people have mentioned that it dries quickly and to move fast, this is not the case for me at all, I don’t know if that’s because I moisturise and prime right before applying foundation or whether it just depends on skin type. I also found that I had to wait for it to dry for a few minutes otherwise it was slghtly sticky to the touch – again other people have mentioned quite a bit that it was quite the opposite but not for me!

I loved the coverage on this foundation. If you read my previous post you would know I have acne/scarring and red areas – all of which were covered with a layer of this foundation without the need of a concealer. I build up the cover with 2 layers depending on how my skin is on a day to day basis but a majority of the time 1 layer does it!

I found as well that after applying this foundation and the rest of my make up I did not look cakey at all! Which was the look I was trying to get away from as mentioned previously. Good coverage with 1 layer of creamy foundation is exactly what I look for in a foundation!

There is also no smell to this foundation. I’ve read that some of the MAC foundations smell like paint, luckily this is not one of those foundations. I would say this foundation is best for combination skin, if you have very dry skin I don’t believe this would give you the dewy look you would be after and for really oily skin people I believe you’d get away with it but it may not last as long as you’d want. I have almost completely oily skin apart from my cheeks and it only starts to look too oily after 10 hours on a humid day. Also I found that close up sometimes this foundation may have had it’s flaws but on camera, no matter what my skin looked FLAWLESS!

I am aware this may have been too long winded but I never expected myself to have so much to say about it!

Overall, I would recommend this foundation to a majority of you as well as the Prep & Prime Fix+. For a photo of me with the finished look after using this foundation as my base, just let me know and I’ll post one below.

There is only 1 negative to this foundation for me which has been a regular issue with this foundation. As you are aware, I have acne prone skin and unfortunately this foundation did make my skin break out and in places that I would never usually break out either. I am yet to see if this was just the fact that my skin was getting to a new foundation or whether it was unrelated etc, however for me the positives definitely weighed out this negative and this is still going to be one of my favourite foundations!
